Year 1- Polar Stem activities
We made an ice glove and predicted which finger would melt first. We rescued our polar toys from the ice by digging them out on Day 1. We planned ways of a faster rescue on Day 2, using the radiator, sand and salt. Salt worked the best!
We are definitely braver than our teacher at keeping our hands in icy cold water. This test was to show how blubber keeps polar animals warm. We covered one hand with tin foil/lard/Vaseline/glove/cotton wool/sock and compared it to our other hand.
Today, we watched how the special oil on penguins feathers keep them dry and tested wax coloured penguins.
